Abstract
The purpose of this report is to provide information on the establishment of the Christchurch Youth Centre. The report begins with background information on the history of Youth Centres in New Zealand. This is followed by a review of the Christchurch Youth Centre from the initial concept which was established in 1982. The report continues with the objectives of the Christchurch Youth Centre followed by an identification of some of the needs which led to the establishment of such a facility in Christchurch. The background information gives an outline of the Trustees of the Christchurch Youth Center Trust and the management employed to run the Youth Centre. The final aspect considered in the background information is the funding of the Youth Centre. This gives a detailed list of the main grants and donations which have enabled the Christchurch Youth Centre to get established. Part three of this report deals with an attitudinal survey which was undertaken by Christchurch Youth Centre. The survey was undertaken by the author this report along with the help of seven volunteers. The survey sample of 130 households was undertaken with ten suburbs being randomly selected from the Christchurch metropolitan area. From these suburbs a street was randomly selected so that the survey would not be biased. The survey results were then collated and analysed. Results were then discussed and conclusions drawn from the survey. Part four of this report deals with some recommendations that have been made. These are mainly based on the information which was gained from the survey. They deal mainly with promotional recommendations. The Christchurch Youth Centre is to be officially opened by the Mayor of Christchurch, Sir Hamish Hay, on Saturday 9th October 1985.
