Abstract
This study investigates the availability of native plants from nurseries in Canterbury. Its purpose was to determine whether the natives which landscape architects wished to specify were obtainable from nurseries. Its objectives were: - to review situations in which natives are used in New Zealand, based on information from practising landscape architects and designers in Canterbury in particular. - to provide a list of natives available. In addition to this information, issues which became apparent relating to problems in supply and the use of natives in general are discussed. Finally, recommendations for future action are given.
