Abstract
This study examined various aspects of the provision of translated German interpretation and information for German speaking visitors to Christchurch, including its relationship to decision making and trip satisfaction. The study is based on five personal interviews and 61 questionnaire respondents. The influence of the amount of information and interpretation provided on destination choice, expectations and satisfaction with visit was examined and was related to length of stay, style of travel, social supports and standard of English skills. The amount of information and interpretation provided was found to have little influence on destination choice. Respondents expected very little to be provided and the amount provided had no influence on satisfaction with their visit. Very little translated information and interpretation was seen by respondents and very little was provided for German speaking visitors at attractions in Christchurch. The study concluded that the amount of translated information and interpretation provided in Christchurch does not have a large impact on the respondents' experience. The final section of the study highlights various opportunities for future research in this area.
