Abstract
Rising administrative and equipment costs have forced many clubs and organisations to raise funds by other means than their annual subscriptions. Community Lotteries have been found to be an ideal fundraiser, giving maximum benefits for minimum effort. It is through these community lotteries that the Licensed Lottery Promoters have found their role in the community fundraising schemes.
This dissertation aims to show what particular role that the Licensed Lottery Promoter has in community fundraising. Two mail surveys have been conducted with the help of Hazlett Promotions (NZ) Ltd of Timaru. With the aid of two computer lists of clubs who have participated in lotteries and those that haven't, the two surveys were sent out to a random sample of organisations. One hundred to participated clubs and fifty to non-participated clubs.
Also in this dissertation is a selection on the general and legal aspects of Licensed Lottery Promoters, with a profile on Mr Fergus Hazlett of Hazlett Promotions (NZ) Ltd. The other section deals with a case study on the Highfield Tennis Club of Timaru, showing how community lotteries have helped their fundraising attempts.
