Abstract
The Bradley Estate is a 648 hectare farm at Charteris Bay that, under the Will of the late Orton Bradley, has been left to the people of New. Zealand as a "National" Park. Present land use is confined to farming with some commercial forestry, coupled with limited recreational opportunities such as golfing, horse riding and scouting. When access to this land becomes freely available, its proximity to Christchurch, potentially high recreational values, historical associations and significant exotic tree plantings, will place this park under considerable pressure by the public at large. The purpose of this study is to: 1. Investigate the future likely demands the public will make upon the site with particular reference to countryside recreation. 2. Define the most appropriate land uses for the future park. 3. Develop these land uses in a way that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. 4. Make detailed proposals for a given area considered to be important and integral to the site.
