Abstract
This dissertation examines the adequacy of the management of the Port Hills scenic amenities. A literature review, and interviews of key informants provided a basis for this dissertation. I found that the scenic amenities of the Port Hills are at risk from residential and commercial forestry development. Inadequate legislation, in particular that governing the Summit Road is the cause of dissatisfaction and management conflict, and this has impacted on protection of scenic amenities. I argue because of these factors the management of scenic amenities on the Port Hills is inadequate.
