This dissertation case studies three organisations that have a current ISO 14001:2004 certification based in New Zealand. It focuses on nine environmental criteria (policy, resources and administration, procurement, environmental criteria for suppliers, environmental criteria for contractors, standards and eco-labels, legislation, influence and communication, and government directives) for suppliers and contractors. The Case Study Organisations (CSOs) were CSO A - food and beverage manufacturing; CSO B - scientific research and consultancy; and CSO C - stainless steel supply. This dissertation provides comparative analysis of these three CSOs when improved environmental performance of their suppliers and contractors was a CSO' s focus.en
