Irrigation-recreation: Interpreting the (hybrid) production-consumption landscape of New Zealand's global countryside

Abstract

This study is examining the irrigation-recreation landscapes of the Canterbury and Otago regions. The key research questions are: (1) who are the stakeholders involved in the creation and (co)management of these hybrid production consumption spaces, (2) what is the nature of their interactions and work, and (3) how can we theorise these emergent socio-spatial phenomena and advance international social science debates about countryside change? The specific site discussed in this poster is located in the Lower Waitaki Valley, 4 kilometres from the township of Oamaru.
