Abstract
The object of this work is :-
1. To give an account of the ecology of that part of the Canterbury foothills where, under the present system of management, pastures are dominated by
Brown Top or Creeping Fog and where gorse, manuka or broom cover extensive areas.
2. To give a brief outline of the utilisation of the land.
3. To investigate, in field studies, the part that Subterranean clover may play in the improvement of these areas.
