This research report presents an analysis of the New Zealand market situation for maize. In addition, some research has been carried out on the international market situation and this has been reported. The cereals sector of New Zealand agriculture has grown rapidly over recent years, in spite of serious imbalances between it and other sectors of agriculture, in terms of government assistance (protection). The future for the cereals sector is still not clear, however, recent removal of government assistance from other sectors of agriculture can only be of benefit to the cereals sector in enabling it to compete more effectively for resources.en
