The impact of trade liberalisation policies in China for the dairy and meat sectors

Abstract

Throughout history China remained largely isolated from the rest of the world by closely restricting foreign activities. In the past twenty years, however, its rapid growth and its integration into the world economy have made China an important player in the future development of the world markets for agricultural products. Adjustments in China's agricultural supply and demand will have significant implications for world agricultural trade and for China's trading partners. This makes China's long-term agricultural development an issue of both national and international significance.

Thus this research will analyse the impact of China's trade liberalisation policies for dairy products (raw milk, liquid milk, butter, cheese, whole milk powder, skim milk powder) and meat products (beef and sheep) for Australia, China, the European Union (EU) and New Zealand using a partial equilibrium trade model.
