Taonga management : pounamu - greenstone : towards common ground
An abstract theoretical basis for resource management is developed. The means of resource use and management in conventional (Western-derived) society and in traditional Maori society respectively are discussed. The “story” of pounamu-greenstone is then told; from past to present to uncertain future. Conclusions are drawn concerning Taonga Management and the search for Common Ground. A comprehensive reference to the geology, law and economics of pounamu-greenstone, and to other matters of concern to taonga management, is provided as appendices.
