The relationship between staple strength and fibre tenacity : a dissertation submitted in partial fufillment of the requirements for the Post-Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Science at Lincoln University
Abstract
Seventy five staples and 75 fibres were obtained from three Corriedale breed fleeces
which were selected to represent three different levels of soundness. The wools were
measured for staple strength, position of break on the staples, the cross sectional area at
breakage position and tenacity. The results of statistical analysis indicate the
relationships between staple strength and fibre tenacity, and variations in staple
strength and fibre tenacity within the sound and unsound wools.
One of the main conclusions is that there was a low correlation between the staple
strength and fibre tenacity within the sound and unsound wools.... [Show full abstract]
