Abstract
Computer programmes are developed to determine the number and size of tidal outfall gates and length of overflow weir necessary to route river flood flow resulting from a design storm through dike-protected river flats into the ocean subject to tidal influence. The hydraulic characteristics of the standard Fijian gates were obtained from the 1:25 model tests. Rainfall-runoff relationships and design hydrographs were determined in sub-routines by curve number and unit hydrograph analyses. Sensitivity studies are reported and an example design included.
