Abstract
This study considers the application of the concept of sustainability to cities. A conceptual approach is used to examine the impact of urban development in terms of the ecologic, economic, and social perspectives of the urban environment. I conclude by suggesting that urban sustainability requires policy reforms that promote changes to urban land use planning and design, the promotion of resource conservation ideologies, and a greater recognition of the need for public involvement in all levels of urban decision making.
