Abstract
The brief : To develop proposals for the design of a botanical garden for Botany Division, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) at East Block, Lincoln, Canterbury. The plan and report to encompass the following: i) Provision of a collection of New Zealand plants for scientific study, authenticated as to origin and status, growing in a relatively uniform environment, and readily accessible. ii) The use of the collection to: satisfy the needs of scientists at Botany Division as a display for visiting botanists, and to accommodate requests for plant material from home and abroad. iii) To provide an area for educational use by Lincoln College and local schools. iv) To establish a public amenity for Lincoln village.
