The development of leisure studies in Aotearoa-New Zealand

Abstract

This paper discusses the historical development of leisure studies in Aotearoa-New Zealand. It explores aspects of the roots of leisure studies in this country and goes on to examine the various approaches in this field to education, training, research and scholarship, past and present. Attention is given to debates concerning the current status of leisure studies in Aotearoa-New Zealand, including various issues which are posing challenges to researchers, scholars, educators and other professionals.
