Abstract
The paper describes an information retrieval and management module that is taught as part of an accredited course at Lincoln University. The course is taught by librarians to students of the Bachelor of Resource Studies and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degrees. Factors which created the climate for teaching information literacy include: modern techniques of information dissemination using computers and telecommunications; changing teaching methods such as problem-based or self-directed learning; Lincoln University's multi-disciplinary approach to learning and research; the library taking more direct responsibility for contributing towards University goals. The students attend lectures and tutorials in information studies and are assessed through assignments and examinations. This is the first time that such a course has been included in a New Zealand university curriculum.
