Abstract
Inputs/outputs and cycling of cadmium (Cd) in agriculture is complex. A preliminary Cd balance model, constructed by Roberts and Longhurst (1997) was tested against measured soil Cd accumulation in a long-term superphosphate trial at Winchmore, New Zealand (Gray et al. 1999). Predicted and measured Cd accumulation did not concur, pointing to a lack of reliable parameter values in some aspects of the model such as atmospheric Cd accessions to soils and Cd leaching. This paper will summarise interim data collected on accessions of atmospheric Cd to soils and on Cd leaching from pasture soils.
