Abstract
Pinot noir, a variety synonymous with Central Otago, has been a key focus of research in NZ and abroad. From provenance, paradoxes (the yield-quality seesaw) and potential changes in production due to management and climate change, the future of Pinot noir offers many different paths and opportunities. We will take a look at the latest research from NZ, specialising on this all-important variety and take you on a journey of interesting production considerations from canopy management to irrigation, aimed at unlocking Pinot noir’s potential now and in the future.
