This training manual is designed for use in the field of instructor training. It is to be used as a guide for instructors in local authority vocational training courses. It may be used alongside programmes of the Vocational Training Service. As a starting point for helping people to improve their communication techniques a range of skills, concepts, knowledge and case studies will be presented to foster an awareness of and interest in communication techniques. Further information is available through – The Vocational Training Council Toastmasters and Toastmistresses Dale Carnegie sponsored courses The N.Z. Council of Adult Education The N.Z. Institute of Management Polytechnics, Universities and Community Colleges throughout New Zealand. The series of steps in which the manual has been set out should be worked through and mastered before moving to each successive step. The process of completing a task can be a stimulus which can awaken a desire to learn or achieve which we never realised we possessed. Recognition of the way to overcome the feelings of frustration and hopelessness that we all face at times when having to communicate with others on a one to one basis or to a large mixed group of people is an objective of this course. The aim of this manual is to provide, in a short and simple format, a set of sound principles on the main aspects of how to communicate. The chief principle is to – PRACTISE WHAT YOU PREACH WHILE YOU PREACH IT.en
