The Journal, 20(1), 12-20.1174-524Xhttps://hdl.handle.net/10182/8457With the constant cost price squeeze, farmers with smaller farms must constantly consider their options to maintain their purchasing power. Some farmers will sell, others will buy extra land, some will sell and shift onto larger farms, and others will further develop their existing farms. Alternative strategies are also possible. Overall, farms in general are increasing their output. Enlarging the farm in various ways is a major factor in this rising production. With the increasing globalisation of marketing, price volatility also means farms need to have buffers through size economics.12-18en© NZIPIMdairy farmerssmall dairy farmsadviceextensionThe extension needs of small dairy farmersJournal ArticleANZSRC::07 Agricultural and Veterinary SciencesANZSRC::070106 Farm Management, Rural Management and AgribusinessANZSRC::070203 Animal Management
