Diet of Amethystine (Morelia kinghorni) and Carpet pythons (Morelia spilota) in North Queensland, Australia

Abstract

In this study we investigated the diets of these two python species in Northeast Queensland. We collected roadkilled specimens, examined them for stomach or fecal contents, and recorded any incidental observations of feeding. This study provides important initial insight into the feeding ecology of these python species in the Australian Wet Tropics. It forms the basis for more detailed research that is needed to elucidate their foraging ecology and predator-prey relationships, particularly with regard to M. kinghorni.
