Abstract

Tensions between wanting to retain a landscape in order to maintain the richness of a traditional lifestyle, set against pressure for landscape change to sustain economic viability are common in many parts of the world. This example from the Alentejo region of South Eastern Portugal, highlights the many issues surrounding landscape change and development.
