Abstract
Ongoing perceptions of the State of the New Zealand environment, now via a triennial survey last administered and reported on in 2016, provides a basis for examining how people with different demographic characteristics relate to the environment and its management. Maori have a closer affinity than do people of other ethnicities. Those with higher level education and higher incomes demonstrate a similar pattern.
