Abstract
The district lies approximately 60 kms southeast
of Hamilton, and encompasses three towns.
Tirau, in the north (closest to Hamilton), Putaruru
about 12 kms south of Tirau, and Tokoroa another 20 km south. Traffic volumes (see Table Traffic Volumes in South
Waikato District) for the main state highways which traverse
the district are very heavy. In particular, State highway 1
which has between 6000 - 7000 vehicles per day. Other feeder
routes are also quite heavily trafficed. Much of this traffic
is flowing through the three townships - Tirau, Putaruru and
Tokoroa. It was for this reason that there would seem to be
potential in pursuing tourist and travelling public oriented
business activities, to service their needs. Many people are
doing just this. Are there further opportunities?
