Abstract
In mid 1977 staff of the Department of Horticulture, Landscape and Parks, Lincoln College, were asked to advise on future
development of a property which was at the time producing vegetables and fruits. Part of the ten hectare property
had been designated for a future primary school and the owners were enthusiastic that any residential development
should be totally integrated with the existing and potential open space and community facilities that would result
if a school-park concept was accepted. Riversdale suburb does not have any public buildings, churches or developed sporting facilities. Such a concept as outlined above was therefore envisaged as a
development which would serve a much-needed integrative
function for the Riversdale community as a whole. This document is the final report to the Lincoln College Riversdale Planning Group. It is presented in four parts:
1. Statements of the Planning Group - the intent.
2. The Social Survey: Description, needs and wants.
3. Attitudes, beliefs and realities.
4. Conclusions and suggestions for future directions.
