dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this project is to undertake a nutritional and economic evaluation of algae as a feed constituent for mono-gastric diets. Specific reference will be made to waste-grown algae, and its productive relationships. The primary motivation for the projects initiation was contact between Alliance Freezing Company and Lincoln College. Alliance Freezing Company are trying to ascertain the nutritional and economic feasibility of harvesting the algal growth in oxidation ponds at their Invercargill freezing works. The project includes: A description of the Alliance Freezing Company situation, as regards algae production An identification of an algal sample from the oxidation ponds A review of literature pertaining to algae, growth,harvest, processing and consumption An economic analysis of algae production, including a forecasted algal demand curve Alliance Freezing Company are trying to ascertain the nutritional and economic feasibility of harvesting the algal growth in oxidation ponds at their Invercargill freezing works A conclusion section in which recommendations are made based on the obtained information. | en |
