Abstract
Non-linear inverse problems, such as inversion of electromagnetic plane waves from moisture perturbations, represent a difficult class of problem necessitating a usually lengthy iterative reconstruction. In this paper we describe a method to provide a crude reconstruction from microwave scattering using the example of reconstruction of scattering from a dielectric cylinder. We first employ a Bessel function forward solution and then invert directly using Fourier diffraction. This rapid inversion either stands alone for applications where generation of quantitative moisture distribution is unnecessary, or may be used as the first step in an iterative inversion.
