Abstract
Aims: The root depth of pasture that is used for irrigation scheduling has substantial implications in estimating irrigation requirements. Field experiments were undertaken at the Lincoln University Dairy Farm (LUDF), Christchurch, New Zealand to improve estimates of the effective root depth of ryegrass pasture (Lolium perenne) based on a water budget study in non-weighing percolation lysimeters.
