Who wants to be a Grand Master? Grand Masters of the Orange Lodge of the Middle Island of New Zealand

Abstract

This chapter outlines the beginnings of the Orange Order in the South Island of New Zealand. It then identifies the demographic profile of the leadership, in this case, the Grand Masters. Findings include the Grand Masters being politically active, mostly Irish-born and long-lived. This in turn lead to the stability and growth of this fraternal organisation.
