Perspectives: What type of visitor does NZ want? What does it need?

Abstract

In this piece, we drill down into the concept of the high-value tourist and conclude that such a strategy would see a reduction, in not one but in all of the following: tourism numbers, impact on the environment, socio-economic aspects, and revenue to New Zealand. The tourists are coming back, but what sort of tourist do we want?
