Abstract
To many people Dr Carolyn ‘Kim’ King is best known as the editor of the Handbook of New Zealand mammals – also known the ‘mammal bible’ for scientists in New Zealand. Her contribution to New Zealand mammal research, however, is much wider than this. Kim has made a significant contribution towards the production of the New Zealand Journal of Zoology for many years. She spent 28 years as sole Executive Editor, and 6 years as Senior Editor until the end of 2015. In honour of this work, she was awarded a ‘Certificate of Recognition’ for her service to the New Zealand Royal Society in 2016. It is fitting that she received this award, as this work is often unrecognised and unappreciated. Without the hours of expert editing that Kim invested in the Journal it would not have achieved the status it currently enjoys.
