Abstract
The following paper considers the impact that mountain biking has had on the New Zealand recreation scene (focusing on Canterbury), and the responses that this particular form of recreation has elicited from land management authorities, in particular the Department of Conservation.
The paper is broken into two parts . Part One address three problem statements, and discusses them. Part Two realises the potential for mountain biking in the tourist sector and comes in the form of a marketing plan for a hypothetical company~ It also includes recommendations for the future.
