Abstract
This report describes a pilot survey of energy use on 20 Mid-Canterbury mixed cropping farms. The survey was carried out by the Joint Centre for Environmental Sciences at Lincoln College as part of its research into energy use in agriculture in New Zealand. The energy use studied includes not only the direct fuel and power consumed on the farm but also that used via indirect forms, such as fertilisers, machinery, chemicals, etc.
