Abstract
Bishopdale is a suburb of Christchurch eight kilometres north-west of Cathedral Square, and is situated in the Waimairi County. It began approximately fifteen years ago as a newly developing suburb, with a population consisting largely of young families with small children. As the size of the suburb has increased and the population grown, it's composition has undergone constant change, and it now consists of a much more varied community with a wider age group, and therefore a much wider variety of needs and interests. Many of the community facilities, for example kindergartens, schools and sports clubs, developed along with the suburb; the Bishopdale Community Centre was conceived, and eventually built to complement these facilities, and to cope with the ever changing needs and demands of the community.
