Abstract
The aim of this project is to develop capabilities necessary for the production and characterisation of new Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir clones. We are using molecular techniques to identify potentially valuable new trait changes among vines that have undergone an accelerated rate of natural genetic change. This report summarises experiments performed in the past year to improve the information gained from genotyping assays and improve the efficiency of the testing protocol by processing multiple samples in parallel. We have also begun testing the ability of the transposon-based genotyping assay to discriminate clones of the same variety, a task for which no current tool exists.
