Abstract

The main objectives of this study are: 1) To assess "the view from the bike" - how it is possible to perceive landscape as a cyclist, using an analysis of the character of Christchurch as a case example, and to describe effective vehicular cycling technique as a basis for ensuring safe design. 2) To evaluate a section of the Christchurch cycle route network to see how it relates to the landscape and suggest improvements and additions as appropriate. 3) To provide technical backup information. 4) To summarise the issues related to cycle planning given with as an introduction for landscape architects.
