Off peak tourism survey results from a study of the Wanaka area 1982

Abstract

Little research has been carried out on the trends and motivations of both the domestic and international tourists who visit Wanaka outside the summer period. The results of this survey are intended to supply information to the industry in Wanaka in a bid to stimulate extension and improvements to existing services. A secondary function of this survey is to match the results against those of other national surveys recently carried out. The study will examine the trends in tourism throughout the 1982 off peak season. Runs will be carried out over Easter, Easter to May, August 23-29 and October 11-25. It is hoped that the study will detect any dominant features in visitation and changes in the visitation patterns over the period of the survey. This research is directed primarily for the people of Wanaka. This presentation will therefore take a less scientific and formal approach in the analysis of results.
