dc.description.abstract | The term “nano” followed by a staggering choice of nouns or adjectives represents a vast combination of systems with applications across established as well as new and emerging science and technology fields. Nevertheless, two of those terms, namely, nanoparticles and liposomes when associated with drug delivery reflect a rather mature field that spans exciting preliminary research and development all the way to actual medicines that are available in markets worldwide. Drug delivery “nanotech” is no longer an emerging field; indeed it is essential if the plethora of potential new drugs arising from the genetics and ‘omics fields are to be realised. Added to this is huge potential of nano-drug delivery and what it offers to facilitate the translation of existing bioactives into new therapies for resistant, debilitating and notorious diseases. | |
