Section 33 transfers — Implications for co-management and kaitiakitanga: Progress at last?

Abstract

This chapter is intended to assist practitioners in understanding the context within which s 33 of the Resource Management Act 1991 was enacted and subsequently amended. It identifies some difficulties and possibilities for use, especially with respect to iwi authorities, records the state of transfers in New Zealand as at May 2017 (the most recent available robust list) and addresses the 2020 first transfer to iwi under s 33.
